Chapter 8- Madison
I didn’t get any sleep last night, I kept having nightmares that Dontae was trying to kill me. Dream stayed with me some nights and I loved her even more for that. The sun was shining brightly through my room forcing me to wake up and face reality. I looked over at Dream, who was laid out across the bed snoring. I let her sleep because I knew she needed it. I got up and took care of my hygiene after I was dressed I ran downstairs to find something to eat. My father was sitting at the island drinking his coffee and reading the paper.
“Good morning daddy.” I said kissing him on his cheeks.
“Good morning baby girl. How you feeling this morning?”
“I’m fine, a little tired, though.”
“Well it’s the weekend so you can stay in and relax.”
“Yea I know. I might go to Lyrics since Dream has to work.”
“Oh okay. Maybe I’ll see you there I need to go see her anyway. I feel like I don’t see you guys anymore.”
“I feel the same way I miss everybody so much.”
“Me too with everything we been through these past three years we can’t fall apart now.”
“I know daddy it’ll get better soon.”
“I hope so.”
“Where’s Electra?”
“She had to drop Eva with her father.”
“Oh okay. I still can’t believe I’m going to be a big sister.”
“Me either. In three more months though I’ll have the boy I’ve wished for,”
“You do know Zyaire is a boy right?” I laughed.
“Yea I know, but I always wanted another one. I was actually told you were a boy. Imagine my surprise when you were born.”
“Sheesh dad.”
“You know I’m joking baby girl.”
“I know.”
“So what’s up with Dream?”
“Nothing really, I’m just trying to help her out she has so much going on.”
“I could only imagine, but it’ll all work out especially with you by her side.”
“Thanks, daddy. I’m sure it will. She wants to get custody of her sisters.”
“You know that’s gonna be hard. They just won’t give em to her.”
“Yea I know that’s why she’s working so she can get her own place and stuff.”
“Well you know I’ll help you guys in anyway that I can. Let me get out of here I got some things I need to handle.”
“Okay see you later.”
I loved my father more than anything in this world. He was always there for all of us no matter what and I never wanted for anything, not even his attention. I knew my father would be disappointed in me if he knew what was going on. This was the type of shit that he warned us about and here I was acting like I didn’t know better. I knew I probably should have told somebody about the abuse, I just knew I could handle it. But could I really? Being the youngest of us all, I think I had it the worst. Trust me I was grateful for having a loving and supportive family don’t get me wrong. It was just that sometimes I felt like I couldn’t breathe without being reminded that I’m a Winters.
